In early 2013, Land and Sea Dept. was asked to give The Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival a complete conceptual makeover.

We began the process by reorienting the festival grounds (at that point, in its fifth year), moving the event to a stretch of Milwaukee between Kedzie and Kimball, giving it a more focused center than it had in previous years.

LSD Art Dept. reworked the festival identity, creating a new logo, word mark and a new site.

From there, we dug into the programming, and helped curate all aspects of the festival - the art, food, installations, music and vendors.

In terms of art and vending, we invited friends from across the creative spectrum, folks like Document, Drug Factory Press, Elastic Arts, Fourth Is King, Nothing Major, Public Media Institute, Puerto Rican Arts Alliance, Saki Records, Sonnenzimmer, South Logan Arts Coalition, Trailer Park Proyects, threewalls and You Are Beautiful.

In terms of food, we worked with Chicago Diner, Dia De Los Tamales, Lula Café, Myko’s Italian Ice, Kathryn Anne Confections, Puffs Of Doom and Reno, and then our own Longman & Eagle and Parson’s Chicken & Fish.

We also programmed music across two stages, featuring All Tiny Creatures, Bare Mutants, Cairo Gang, CAVE, DāM-FunK, M.A.K.U. Soundsystem, Tabacco, The Waco Brothers, William Cepeda and more.
